"ARTISTS IN THE CLASSROOM" TELEVISED PROGRAMS

Guests include: PAT SOIFER , an art docent from the Monterey Museum of Art and
DR. STEVEN NASH, curator of "Picasso and the War Years: 1937-1944 at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, together,

with television personality and series host Maia Carroll, they will introduce your students to Picasso and
how he influenced 20th Century Art.
When you register for this free MCOE-TV program you will receive:
* Teacher and student classroom materials and activity packets
* An access identification number allowing your students to speak live with the
* Art professional via a toll-free telephone number from your school site.
* Ability to fax your student produced drawings to our studio for sharing with our
guest artist and other participating Monterey County students.
*Your students will have the opportunity to participate in one more of the following:
* LEARN HOW TO EXPERIMENT WITH THEIR OWN VERSION OF CUBISM
* LEARN HOW TO CREATE THROUGH OBSERVATION
* LEARN HOW ONE ARTIST CONTRIBUTIONS CHANGES THE ART WORLD
* LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REALISTIC AND ABSTRACT ART
PROGRAM GUEST
PAT SOIFER, is an active community volunteer with a long term interest in the arts, visiting and studying art across the nation and abroad. Before she came to Monterey, she was a docent at the Crocker Art Gallery in Sacramento. She volunteers locally with the Monterey SPCA and Friends of the Sea Otter. She is also a volunteer teacher in the creative Response art appreciation program, one of the Monterey Museum of Art's educational outreach programs. She has adapted one of the program's lessons for MCOE to bring an introduction to Picasso to Monterey County students. Pat has B.A. degree in English with a minor in speech and Theater and a Secondary Teaching Credential from Indiana University.

STUDENTS WILL DRAW A CUBIST PICTURE RELATING TO ONE OF THE PICTURES SHOWN DURING THE LESSON. THE PROGRAM TEACHER WILL GIVE DIRECTIONS.
