"ARTISTS IN THE CLASSROOM" TELEVISED PROGRAMS

There is a life in the arts, and now your students will be able to interact with two professional artists, live from the MCOE-TV studios in Salinas.

Guests include: BILL BATES, a well known published cartoonist and ALEX ANDERSON,Together, with television personality and series host Maia Carroll, they will introduce students to Artists living right here on the Monterey Peninsula. Students will have the opportunity to participate in one more of the following:

* CREATE A UNIQUE CARTOON CHARACTER

* LEARN HOW TO CREATE THROUGH OBSERVATION

* LEARN HOW TO USE YOUR HUMOR FOR A CAREER

* HOW TO BECOME A CARTOONIST

 

CREATE YOUR OWN CARTOON

1) CREATE ONE SINGLE PANEL WITHOUT A CAPTION. LET THE DRAWING TELL THE JOKE.

2) CREATE ONE SINGLE PANEL WITH A CAPTION BETWEEN TWO CHARACTERS.

THE CHARACTERS CAN BE BASED ON ANYBODY OR ANYTHING: YOURSELF, AN ATHLETE, A MOVIE STAR, EVEN YOUR PET.

3) USE THE PANELS BELOW, OR IF YOU NEED MORE SPACE USE ANOTHER SHEET OF PAPER TO CREATE YOUR OWN CARTOONS.

Bill Bates, University of Texas, Advertising Major. Illustrator-Air Training Command. Creator of comic strip "PING". Artist -In-Residence for Royal Viking Line. To date has produced 23 Cruise sketchbooks, including eight World Cruises. Cartoonist for the Carmel Pine Cone since 1972. (17 of these cartoons permanently displaed in the Carmel U.S. Post Office.) Bill has been published and those books are "Carmel By-The-Bates" and "San Francisco-The City By The Bates".
